A Smile Says it All

A Smile Says it All

Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital has been providing healthcare to the community for more than 100 years. As part of our mission of serving the poor and those in need, services have grown to include the Ministry Dental Center in Stevens Point, even though dental care is outside of our typical delivery of care.

A health partnership between CAP Services, Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital and Delta Dental Plan of Wisconsin, Ministry Dental Center was built on the belief that people have a right to quality dental care services that are efficient, effective and accessible – that care should be compassionate and delivered in a dignified and respectful manner by a culturally-sensitive and highly-professional team.

Ministry Dental Center is designed to increase dental access to low-income families; improve oral health in our community through a comprehensive approach; reduce emergency room visits related to dental/tooth pain; and improve overall health of our patients. For eligibility, patients must be a part of the State of Wisconsin Medicaid and BadgerCare programs, and reside in Portage or Waupaca Counties.

Upon visiting, a patient is examined for cavities, receives any necessary treatments (such as root canals, extractions, being fitted for dentures, etc.), and then moves to preventive care for cleanings.

One of the dental center’s main programs targets children ages 0-3. Getting proper dental care at the very early years of life puts people on the right course for better overall health throughout their lifetime.

“We treated the current dental problems of a large group of patients,” says Brenda Diamond, Ministry Dental Center director. “Now we can focus on prevention and get ahead of the issues. Hopefully we have a population coming up that will not have the same kind of problems.”

Letters and stories from Ministry Dental Center patients indicate their care has been life-changing, opening new opportunities for employment/promotions, social life and self-esteem. Their smiles say it all.
